Won Cho
About
Won Cho is a Korean-Canadian bass renowned for his deep, resonant voice praised by critics for its mellifluous sound and exceptional stage presence. He holds a DMA in Voice Performance with a minor in Conducting from The University of Memphis, an MM in Voice Performance from Boston University, and a BM in Voice Performance from Manhattan School of Music. Won is an Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he teaches applied voice and opera. He is a regular performer with Opera Birmingham, having performed in multiple productions each year since 2012, including Turandot, Roméo et Juliette, Rigoletto, Hamlet, Die Zauberflöte, and La bohème. Beyond Birmingham, Won maintains an international performance career, with recent solo engagements including Turandot with Opera Naples in Florida and performances of Messiah and Bach's Magnificat with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. As an educator, Won has presented master classes and coaching sessions at universities and summer voice programs in China, Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Luxembourg, and throughout the United States. His former students have been accepted into prestigious institutions including the Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College of Music, Oberlin College, and the Peabody Conservatory.
