William Joyner
About
William Joyner is Associate Professor of Voice (Tenor) in the Division of Vocal Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music, where he has taught since 2014. Born in North Carolina, Joyner holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Catholic University of America. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has performed 60 different opera roles, singing in 13 countries on three continents. He has been engaged by some of the world's foremost opera theaters, including Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatro la Fenice di Venezia, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Washington National Opera, and Santa Fe Opera. Joyner has performed with the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic, and has worked with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Alan Gilbert, Vladimir Jurowski, Kurt Masur, Antonio Pappano, Georges Prêtre, and Marcello Viotti. Among his many honors, he has received the Feinstein Artist of the Year Award from Washington National Opera, the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation, the Sullivan Foundation Award, and the Silver Medal from the Rosa Ponselle Foundation. At UNT, he teaches Voice (tenor) and French Diction.
