Violet Vonder Haar
About
Violet Vonder Haar is an accomplished songwriter, artist, activist, educator, and community leader from mid-Missouri, described by the Columbia Daily Tribune as a storm-chaser in songwriters clothes. She is the Programs Director and a facilitator, teacher, and director for Compass Inc. in Columbia, Missouri, a nonprofit music organization dedicated to community music education. Violet has been involved with Compass since 2009, when she was invited to perform in Composer Songwriter Showcases, and joined their staff in 2012 for the first year of Compass Music Camp. She serves as director and facilitator for multiple Compass programs including the IGRB Choir, Compass Folk Choir, and Compass Songwriters Club. As a performer and educator, Violet is the lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter for Violet and the Undercurrents, a shape-shifting indie rock quartet that records and performs nationally. She also founded and directs the Jane Doe Revue, an all-female rock orchestra of approximately 30 women that performs music of renowned female artists to raise funds for local womens organizations. Additionally, Violet serves as Director of Music Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbia. She holds a private studio offering comprehensive voice and songwriting instruction, and works with students of all levels and ages, emphasizing artistic growth, technical development, and creative expression.
