Valerie Sorel
About
Valerie Sorel is a voice faculty member at The Hartt School, University of Hartford, with over 35 years of international performance history. She brings a sophisticated teaching methodology that integrates studies in human anatomy, electro-acoustics, psychology (including trauma), functional fitness, animal behavior, and neurological rehabilitation. Rather than relying on vague imagery, Sorel emphasizes developing smooth neurological pathways to singing. She works with singers across multiple genres including opera, musical theater, jazz, folk, R&B, choral, and bluegrass. Her students have performed at prestigious venues including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and on Broadway, with many winning competitions such as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Tony Awards.
