Ted Christopher
About
Ted Christopher is an Associate Professor of Voice and Vocal Literature at Penn State University School of Music. He is an accomplished baritone with a wide and diverse career spanning singing, acting, stage directing, and teaching. Dr. Christopher earned his degrees in vocal performance and opera from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied under renowned vocal pedagogues Mikael Eliasen and Marlena Malas. He supplemented his training through the Juilliard Opera Center and San Francisco Operas Merola Program under the legendary soprano Rรฉgine Crespin. His operatic career ranges from Monteverdi to contemporary works, with performances at major companies including Cleveland Opera, Vancouver Opera, and San Francisco Opera Center. A featured member of Ohio Light Opera since 1997, he served as General Director from 2007-2009 and became Principal Guest Director in 2011. He was appointed Artistic Director of The Savoy Company in 2012. Prior to joining Penn State, Dr. Christopher served as faculty at Eastman School of Music and University of Memphis as director of opera. Additionally, Dr. Christopher is an ordained Episcopal priest and serves as chaplain to Episcopal at Penn State. He brings a comprehensive approach to vocal instruction that integrates singing technique with dramatic interpretation and movement for the stage.
