Susan Williams
About
Dr. Susan Williams is Associate Professor of Voice and Vocal Pedagogy and Associate Director of Opera at the University of Alabama School of Music, where she also serves as Co-Coordinator of the voice area. She holds a BM from Birmingham-Southern College, MM from University of Akron, and DMA from Cleveland Institute of Music. Dr. Williams oversees the UA Voice Lab and teaches body movement systems and virtual anatomy technologies for vocal instruction. She is a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and completed a 100-hour pranayama/breathwork module, integrating these practices into her vocal pedagogy. Previously on faculty at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Dr. Williams was a 2013 member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing internship program at Vanderbilt University and served as faculty artist at the Bassi Brugnatelli International Conducting and Singing Symposium in 2018. She has published articles in The Journal of Singing and Voice Prints on integrating body movement systems and virtual anatomy technologies in vocal pedagogy. Dr. Williams serves as Membership Chair for the Alabama Chapter of NATS and Alabama Governor for the National Opera Association.
