Stuart Skelton
About
Stuart Skelton is an internationally acclaimed Australian heldentenor and holds the J. Ralph Corbett Distinguished Chair in Opera at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he has served as Chair of CCM Opera since January 2022. A 1995 graduate of CCM's Master of Music in Voice program, Skelton has maintained one of the most distinguished careers in heldentenor repertoire on the world's great opera stages. Recognized as one of the finest heldentenors of his generation, he is praised for his outstanding musicianship, tonal beauty, and intensely dramatic portrayals. Skelton has graced the world's most celebrated opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Paris Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Hamburg State Opera, Berlin State Opera, and Semperoper Dresden, among others. In 2016, he opened the Metropolitan Opera season with Nina Stemme in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. He was recognized as Best Male Singer by the International Opera Awards in 2014 and is a Grammy nominee. In his role at CCM, Skelton has established a language and cultural immersion program in partnership with international professional artists, giving Artist Diploma students opportunities to study abroad and work with professionals in Europe. The program launched in fall 2022.
