Stanford Olsen is a Professor of Voice at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where he joined the faculty in 2012 after 15 years as artist-in-residence at Florida State University. His distinguished performance career spans more than 1,200 performances on five continents over 30 years, including more than 160 performances with the Metropolitan Opera since his professional operatic debut there in 1986 opposite Dame Joan Sutherland in Bellini's I Puritani. Acclaimed for his performances of leading tenor roles in operas by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini, he has performed at major opera houses worldwide including San Francisco Opera, La Scala di Milano, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Nederlandse Oper, and Australian Opera. Olsen won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1986, was a Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant winner in 1989, and is a four-time Grammy nominee and Emmy winner for the PBS broadcast of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. His students include Grammy and Emmy award winners and Metropolitan Opera grant winners.

Education & Qualifications

Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Utah. Artist Diploma in Opera from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions winner (1986), Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant winner (1989).
