Sharon Szymanski is Executive Director and Senior Teacher of Voice and Musical Theater at Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts. She taught voice at UNC-Chapel Hill for seven years before opening her own private voice studio in Chapel Hill in 2000, which eventually grew into the Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts. With over 70 roles in theater, musical theater and opera, Sharon brings extensive professional performance experience to her teaching. Her solo career includes recitals, concerts, and oratorios. She premiered Mark Glick's "The Wife of Bath" in 2004, a piece that won the NATS national art song competition, and has participated in contemporary opera filming. Sharon has served as former president of the Durham Music Teachers Association and Chapel Hill Music Teachers Association, and was a former Executive Board member of NCMTA and NC NATS. She specializes in working with singers of all ages and experience levels, with particular expertise in recovering from vocal problems and medical treatment. Her teaching encompasses all music genres, contemporary commercial styles, and classical training.
