Sharon J. Paul
About
Dr. Sharon J. Paul is the Robert M. Trotter Chair of Music and Department Head of Music Performance at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. She serves as the Director of Choral Activities and directs the internationally acclaimed University of Oregon Chamber Choir, which has placed first or second in five international choral competitions, including winning the 2024 World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Dr. Paul teaches graduate courses in choral conducting, repertoire, and pedagogy. She is a renowned conductor and educator with expertise in both classical vocal technique and choral ensemble leadership. Her book, Art & Science in the Choral Rehearsal, published by Oxford University Press in 2020, presents evidence-based teaching strategies and creative approaches to rehearsal. Dr. Paul brings 25+ years of experience in vocal performance and choral music education. Prior to joining University of Oregon in 2000, she served as artistic director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, where she conducted acclaimed performance ensembles. She has received numerous honors including Oregon ACDA's Podium Award and the University of Oregon Fund for Faculty Excellence Award.
