About
Sarah M. Greer is a performer, songmaker, and voice instructor based in south Minneapolis. She is a vocalist who practices, studies, and teaches the art of vocal improvisation, with a particular focus on jazz and scat singing. Sarah maintains an active presence as both a recording artist and voice educator, with involvement in community music projects through her Songtaneous initiative. She has received two Artist Initiative Awards by the Minnesota State Arts Board and holds a degree in vocal performance. Greer performs regularly in the Twin Cities with a cappella ensemble the Give Get Sistet and jazz quintet BLU-7. In 2017, she received an Artist Initiative Award from the Minnesota State Arts Board to complete a solo album of jazz compositions. Sarah teaches singing privately and at Minneapolis Community & Technical College (MCTC), offering sessions for students ages 10-110. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes informed, intelligent singing instruction, with highly personalized lessons tailored to each student's specific goals and interests. Students explore vocal technique, breath control, vocal health, jazz improvisation, scat singing, multiple musical genres, music theory, microphone technique, stage presence, and lyric interpretation.
