Sarah Brailey
About
Sarah Brailey is a Wisconsin native who serves as Teaching Faculty in Voice at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A prolific recording artist and performer, she won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for her performance in Dame Ethyl Smyth's The Prison. Praised by The New York Times for her 'radiant, liquid tone' and 'exquisitely phrased' singing, and by Opera UK for 'a sound of remarkable purity,' she is an accomplished vocalist specializing in historically-informed performance, contemporary classical music, and 18th- and 19th-century solo and orchestral repertoire. She founded C8dence, a vocal chamber ensemble dedicated to performing contemporary repertoire with a focus on exploring the vast expressive and technical capabilities of the human voice. She has taught master classes and artist residencies at institutions including Peabody Conservatory, Longy School of Music, Ithaca College, Harvard University, Duke University, Cornell University, and MIT.
