Dr. Sarah Beckham-Turner is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera Director at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, where she joined the School of Music in 2018. Soprano Sarah Beckham-Turner is enjoying an operatic career that takes her around the world, best known for singing repertoire outside the standard canon. She has performed with American Opera Projects in New York City for the world premiere of Letters That You Will Not Get, sung Alice in Verdis Falstaff with Raylynmor Opera, and performed Hänsel in Amarillo Operas Hänsel und Gretel. She holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Baylor University (2005), M.M. in vocal performance from Boston University, and a Certificate in Opera Performance from the Opera Institute at Boston University (2009). Dr. Beckham-Turner is an active member of Opera Cowgirls, a band based in New York City that makes opera more accessible to wider audiences. She has received acclaim from the New York Times, Opera News, Wall Street Journal, and The Observer for her soulful and affecting performances. As WT Opera director, she leads the programs endowed fund established following a $50,000 gift in late 2024. She also co-founded Triosarachops, a soprano, horn, and piano trio performing with Chamber Music Amarillo.
