About
Sandra Moon is an American soprano with an extensive international opera career spanning multiple decades, serving as Associate Professor of Voice at Louisiana State University School of Music. She made her professional debut as Frasquita in Carmen with the legendary Placido Domingo at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. From 1992-1997, she performed at the prestigious Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Germany, followed by a remarkable 15-year engagement (1997-2012) at Munich's GĂ€rtnerplatz Theater. Her extensive repertoire encompasses over 100 roles across major European opera houses including Berlin, Dresden, Paris, Vienna, and Warsaw. Her North American credits include her prestigious Metropolitan Opera debut as Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos conducted by the legendary James Levine, Carnegie Hall performance (2005), and performances with New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Portland Opera, and Cleveland Opera. She is particularly renowned for her specialization in baroque repertoire, having performed at the HĂ€ndel Festivals and appearing on the Oehms Classic CD label. Since 2016, Moon has consistently taught and directed Mozart operas at the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, where she has developed expertise in Mozart opera coaching and performance practice. She has also performed in Terrence McNally's Master Class and brings her international experience and pedagogical expertise to her teaching at LSU.
