Samuel Cook is Voice-Artist in Residence and Director of Gospel Choir at Abilene Christian University, where he serves as Associate Professor of Voice. A tenor, Cook has performed operatic and solo vocal repertoire throughout the United States and Europe. He attended the Johns Hopkins University Peabody Conservatory of Music and Indiana University, pursuing advanced training with legendary opera singers Carlo Bergonzi and Renata Tebaldi in Busseto, Italy. Along with operatic roles, Cook has performed internationally as a song and lieder recitalist whose programs encompass repertoire from Bach's oratorios to Negro spirituals. The ACU Gospel Choir, which he directs, is an ensemble of 12-16 members open to all students that performs contemporary African-American Gospel and traditional spirituals. The choir was formed in 2019 and performs concerts throughout the academic year. Cook is a professional tenor and voice professor dedicated to developing the next generation of vocalists in both classical and gospel traditions.
