Russell Thomas is a Professor of Practice (Voice) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and an American tenor recognized for his heroically shining tone of exceptional clarity and precision by Opera Magazine. The New York Times praised his gorgeously burnished power. He has established himself as a leading interpreter of Verdi roles, including Don Alvaro, Manrico, Otello, Adorno, and Don Carlo, performing at prestigious venues like Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Metropolitan Opera, and Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Beyond Verdi, Thomas has performed bel canto roles such as Pollione in Norma and verismo repertoire including Turiddu and Rodolfo. He has collaborated with renowned conductors including Teodor Currentzis, Gustavo Dudamel, Ricardo Muti, and Sir Simon Rattle. Thomas teaches as a voice professor at Indiana University in Bloomington while maintaining an active performing career on the world's most important stages.
