Rosephanye Powell
About
Dr. Rosephanye Powell is professor of voice at Auburn University, where she serves as the Charles W. Barkley Endowed Professor and coordinator of voice studies. She teaches applied voice, art song literature, and vocal pedagogy courses, and conducts the women's chorus while co-conducting the Concert Choir and AU Gospel Choir. Dr. Powell has been hailed as one of America's premier women composers of choral and solo vocal music. Her primary performance and research areas include the African American spiritual, the art songs of William Grant Still, and voice-care concerns for choral singers and directors. She received the prestigious Luise Vosgerchian Teaching Award from Harvard University Office for the Arts in 2022, recognizing her outstanding contributions to teaching. She has also received the Living Legend Award from California State University African Diaspora Sacred Music Festival and the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award. Her published works appear with major publishers including Hal Leonard, Oxford University Press, and Gentry Publications.
