Robert Hansen
About
Dr. Robert Hansen is a Regents Professor of Music at West Texas A&M University, where he has been a distinguished faculty member since 1987. A baritone, Dr. Hansen made his professional debut with Boston Summer Opera Theatre and has performed extensively throughout New England, the Midwest, and Southwest. He appears regularly as a soloist with the Amarillo Symphony, Randel Chamber Orchestra, and Amarillo Opera, as well as with Chamber Music Amarillo and Amarillo Little Theatre. Dr. Hansen earned his bachelors degree from Northwestern University, Master of Music from Boston University, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas, with post-graduate study at Cambridge University in England. As coordinator of the vocal/choral division, he teaches voice studio lessons, vocal pedagogy, song literature, foreign language diction, and techniques for the singing actor. He also directs university musical theatre productions and the Piehl-Schaeffer Vocal Lab. Named a Regents Professor of the Texas A&M University System in 2009, Dr. Hansen has received WTAMUs Teaching Excellence Award (2005), Faculty Excellence Award from the Sybil B. Harrington College (2008), and Outstanding Research and Creative Achievement Award (2009). He serves as Executive Director of the National Opera Association and is a member of the Voice Foundation, NATS, and Opera Americas Singer Training Forum. Dr. Hansen has published articles in Journal of Singing, Opera Journal, Choral Journal, and Journal of Voice.
