Rachel Townes is an accomplished music director, voice teacher, and performing artist based in the Athens-Watkinsville, Georgia area. With over 10 years of experience as Music Director for the Oconee Youth School of Performance (OYSP), she has directed and coached vocal performances for numerous musical theater productions and student ensembles. Throughout her career, she has led over 40 main stage theatrical productions including A Christmas Story, Hairspray, and other popular musicals. Beyond her work at OYSP, Rachel has an extensive background as a professional pit musician and has been instrumental in developing young performers into skilled vocalists and stage actors. She began her career with a small professional dinner theater company that toured throughout the Southeast, giving her years of practical experience in live musical theater performance and direction. Her deep understanding of both the technical and artistic aspects of vocal performance in musical theater makes her an exceptional teacher for students interested in Broadway-style singing and performance. At OYSP, Rachel teaches voice and music theory to students of all ages, helping them develop strong vocal technique, music literacy, and stage presence. Her passion for musical theater combined with her pedagogical expertise creates an engaging learning environment for aspiring singers and performers.
