Phaedra McNorton is an accomplished Associate Teaching Professor of Musical Theatre at the College of William & Mary, where she serves as the Musical Theatre Director overseeing all vocal production elements and managing the music for theatrical performances. A native of Mobile, Alabama, McNorton brings a versatile performance background spanning both classical and musical theatre contexts. Her extensive performance history includes concert appearances in prestigious venues such as the Botanical Gardens in Lucca, Italy, and leading roles in productions like Jekyll & Hyde. McNorton earned her Bachelors degree in Vocal Performance from the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston, where she studied under accomplished voice instructors and worked with renowned conductors. Beyond her teaching role at William & Mary, she serves as Music Director at St. Martins Episcopal Church in Williamsburg, where she has been an integral part of the music program. As an innovative educator, McNorton developed teaching resources for voice instruction, including pioneering use of digital accompaniment tools like Virtually Vocal to enhance student learning. Her experience spans teaching classical art song, musical theatre repertoire, opera technique, and contemporary vocal styles to undergraduate music majors and community singers.
