Paul Waara
About
Paul Waara is a tenor vocalist and Director of Operations at the Community Music School of Buffalo, bringing extensive performance and administrative experience to his teaching. He earned his Bachelor's degree in music education from SUNY Fredonia with a voice/choral music concentration. Paul has performed on stage and as a tenor soloist with numerous prestigious ensembles including the Buffalo Choral Arts Society, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Off-Monroe Players (Rochester), Amherst Chamber Ensembles, the Niagara Lutheran Chorale, Arts in Education Institute of Western New York, and the Fredonia Chamber Singers. He has performed leading roles in 8 of the 13 famed "Savoy Operas" by Gilbert and Sullivan, including HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado. Other favorite stage credits include leading roles in The Student Prince and Hello, Dolly! From 2010-2015, Paul served as the music director for Opera-Lytes, where he music directed all stage productions and choral concerts and played an integral role in developing "An Evening of Gilbert and Sullivan" and "Opera on Broadway," two highly successful theme-centered concerts. He serves as Vice-President and President-Elect of the Vocalis Chamber Choir, where he performs as a tenor. His teaching draws on this extensive performance experience in opera, operetta, and musical theater, with particular expertise in Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire and tenor vocal technique.
