Olga Perez Flora
About
Dr. Olga Perez Flora is an Associate Professor of Voice and Head of Voice at the University of New Mexico, where she leads the voice program with distinction. A Cuban-American mezzo-soprano, Dr. Flora was the first prize winner of the American Prize: Women in Song & Oratorio 2022, recognizing her outstanding contributions to vocal performance. She is best known for her sultry portrayal of Carmen, which she has performed numerous times to critical acclaim. Dr. Flora has performed with opera companies and in recitals across the United States, Cuba, and Italy, building an impressive international career. Recent highlights include her featured role as the fiery Lupe Rivera in the opera Frida by Rodriguez with Opera Southwest, and as the Mother and the Sea in Jorge Martins Before Night Falls. Her recording of Cuban songs, Canciones de mi Corazon, is set to release in January 2025, and she will perform Mahlers Das Lied von der Erde with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Spring 2025. As Artistic Director of the Gobbi Villa summer young artist program in Rome, Italy, Dr. Flora mentors the next generation of opera singers in an immersive Italian setting.
