Dr. Norma Mayer holds three degrees in Voice Performance: Bachelor of Music (BM), Master of Music (MM), and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA). She studied at Baylor University, University of Texas, Carnegie Mellon University, and Accademia Vocale di Lucca in Italy. Her accolades include the Margarette McGammon Award of Excellence (Fort Worth Opera Guild), International Puccini Vocal Competition finalist, National Society of Arts and Letters Vocal Competition winner, multiple National Association of Teachers of Singing awards, and Tuesday Music Club Vocal Competition finalist. Mayer performs as a soprano across multiple categories: lyric, spinto, dramatic, and dramatic coloratura roles. Her extensive repertoire spans oratorio, classical art song, American musical theater, and African-American spirituals. She is Co-Artistic Director of Opera-Essence Performances (2013โ€“present), focusing on introducing opera and classical music to diverse audiences. Notable operatic roles include Gilda in Rigoletto and Leonore in Il Trovatore. Critics describe her as having a meltingly rich voice and tremendous operatic dramatic soprano abilities, with performances spanning Italy, France, Germany, Estonia, Austria, and Switzerland. She is an active collaborator with husband Richard Mayer (flutist).
