Nina Scott-Stoddart is an educator, performer, director, designer and producer of opera and musical theatre who has made extraordinary contributions to the performing arts in Nova Scotia. As a professional mezzo soprano, Nina has sung with many orchestras and opera companies across Canada, the United States, and New Zealand, bringing international experience to her teaching. Since relocating to Nova Scotia in 2002, Nina founded Maritime Concert Opera, which has completed 16 successful seasons, and the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, now planning its 17th season, serving as Artistic Director and Founder of both organizations. Before moving to Nova Scotia, Nina was the co-founder of Toronto's Opera Anonymous, which produced over 20 well-reviewed works in its eight year history, demonstrating her entrepreneurial vision and commitment to accessible opera. She has been recorded as a soloist by NAXOS and broadcast coast to coast on the CBC, with her performances reaching audiences across Canada. Through her work with Maritime Concert Opera and Halifax Summer Opera Festival, Nina has created invaluable training and performance opportunities for emerging opera singers in Atlantic Canada, mentoring hundreds of young artists and helping develop the next generation of Canadian opera singers.
