Nicole Jenkins
About
Dr. Nicole Jenkins is an Assistant Professor of Voice at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. A New York native with a distinguished career in vocal performance and instruction, Dr. Jenkins has performed operatic roles including Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Sister Rose in John Heggie's Dead Man Walking, and Sharon Graham in Terrence McNally's Master Class. She has appeared as a soloist with regional orchestras and performed in masterclasses at The Metropolitan Opera. Her teaching expertise spans multiple areas including Bel Canto vocal technique, musical theatre, vocal pedagogy, and the unique needs of singers with asthma and allergies. Dr. Jenkins brings specialized knowledge of music performance anxiety and its effects on singers. At Duquesne, she instructs Applied Voice, Italian and English Diction, German and French Diction, and Opera Workshop, helping students develop their distinctive sound and prepare for their individual goals in opera, recording, healthcare, or education. Her professional background includes a residency with Virginia Opera (2009-2010) and teaching experience as an adjunct at James Madison University, where she instructed voice, diction, and opera history courses. She won the 2020 JMU Concerto/Aria Competition and received the prestigious NATS 2022 Mid-Atlantic Region Emerging Leader Award, recognizing her innovative contributions to voice pedagogy and music education.
