About
Dr. Mitchell Hutchings is an Associate Professor of Voice at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Applied Performance Area Coordinator for Voice, as well as Director of Florida Atlantic Opera Theatre. A versatile and accomplished baritone singer and voice instructor, Dr. Hutchings specializes in voice performance, opera, and commercial vocal performance. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Literature with a minor in Voice Pedagogy and Pathology from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. He holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Western Carolina University. Dr. Hutchings has studied with renowned vocal experts including Robert Swensen, David Okerlund, and Rebecca Cook-Carter. His professional performance experience is extensive, with performances throughout the United States and internationally, from Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium to the Antonin Dvorak Museum in Prague. He serves as President of the South Florida Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and is an alumnus of the NATS Intern Program. His private students have advanced to prestigious institutions including Yale, Harvard, and Eastman, while professional artists under his coaching have achieved significant commercial success. Dr. Hutchings is also involved in technology-driven performance initiatives exploring the intersection of opera and emerging technologies in education.
