Misook Yun
About
Dr. Misook Yun is an accomplished lyric soprano and Instructor of Voice at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she teaches voice and opera workshop courses. She is praised as a singer of exquisite clarity and virtuosity, with an international performance career spanning multiple continents. Dr. Yun has performed extensively in Italy, Austria, Hungary, South Korea, and throughout the United States in numerous operatic roles including Mimi (La Bohรจme), Tosca, Cio Cio San (Madama Butterfly), Violetta (La Traviata), and many others. Her vocal training includes degrees from HanYang University (B.M. and M.M. in Voice Performance) and the University of Oregon (M.M. and DMA in Voice Performance). She has received significant recognition including being a Northwest Regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition, winner of the concerto competition at the University of Oregon, and first prize of the Paul & Lillian Petri Scholarship Competition. She was also a semi-finalist in the Vera Scammon International Vocal Competition and won the Audience Choice Award at the Classical Singer Convention in 2010 in New York City. In 2004, she was one of twelve National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) interns chosen throughout North America, demonstrating her commitment to voice teaching excellence.
