Mimmi Fulmer is Professor of Voice and Opera and Area Chair at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she has been teaching since 1984. An American soprano, she performs repertoire ranging from early music to premieres of works written for her. She is particularly noted as an expert on Nordic repertoire and serves as editor of a three-volume anthology of songs from Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. A distinguished advocate for bringing Nordic songs to American singers, she has been honored with the Vilas Associate Award, Creative Arts Award, and Chancellor's Award. Her students have enjoyed success with prestigious companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Vienna State Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera Australia, and Glyndebourne, as well as careers in musical theatre with leading roles on Broadway and national tours. She has extensive experience with new music, including premieres of nine roles in eight operas.
