Megan McCarthy
About
Megan McCarthy is a talented soprano and private voice instructor at The Academy of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. Originally from Wisconsin, she specializes in opera, art song, and musical theatre. McCarthy earned her Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where she received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship. She is an accomplished performer who continues to build her professional opera career while dedicating herself to vocal instruction. Her recent performance highlights include a principal role as Annina in Verdi's La Traviata with Opera Wilmington (2023), and she was recognized as a National Semi-Finalist for the Mid-Atlantic Region NATS Competition (2023) and First Place winner at North Carolina NATS (2023). Her performance history also includes a lead role in the Madison Savoyards production of Ruddigore (2022), a cover role of Gretel in Chicago Summer Opera's Hรคnsel und Gretel (2021), and an Artist Apprenticeship with Milwaukee Opera Theatre (2019-2020). Currently, Megan actively auditions for young artist programs and vocal competitions while maintaining her teaching practice at the Academy of Music, serving students of all levels and ages.
