Mary Nessinger is an accomplished mezzo-soprano who serves on the voice faculty of both Princeton University and Vassar College. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, and studied at the Eastman School of Music with Seth McCoy and Jan DeGaetani, and in New York with Chloe Owen. Her performance career spans concert and recital throughout the United States and Europe, with critically acclaimed performances that have garnered praise from The New York Times for her "remarkable fluidity and beauty of tone." As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with distinguished artists including Peter Serkin, Mitsuko Uchida, Robert Spano, Ida Kavafian, Fred Sherry, David Shiffrin, Daniel Phillips, Peter Wiley, and Martin Lovett. She has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore, Grand Rapids, Jacksonville, and London Symphonies, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, among others. Her extensive discography includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Nonesuch, Tzadik, CRI, New World, Naxos, Ondine, Mode, and Koch International labels. Mary is particularly noted for her interpretations of contemporary works alongside her performances of standard repertoire, bringing both scholarly depth and expressive artistry to her teaching and performance.
