Mary Lou Muratori
About
Mary Lou Muratori is the founder and director of Muratori Voice Studio in Binghamton, New York, bringing over 40 years of teaching experience and a distinguished professional singing career. A former lyric coloratura soprano, she began her singing career around 1949 with Tri-Cities Opera of Binghamton, where she performed as a coloratura soprano and played piano accompaniments for rehearsals. Muratori was trained in the renowned bel canto vocal traditions by two of the finest vocal pedagogues: Signora Nerina Poggi-Baldesseri of Florence, Italy, and Mae Graves Atkins of New York and Chicago. Most notably, she learned the Francesco Lamperti vocal tradition from Mae Graves Atkins, who studied under the internationally acclaimed Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House coloratura soprano Marcella Sembrich. This direct lineage to the Lamperti tradition gives Muratori access to classical Italian vocal methods of extraordinary historical significance. At her studio, Muratori teaches professional and aspiring singers of all ages in opera, operetta, musical theater, oratorio, art songs, and pop music, using the Lamperti and Marchesi methods. She is recognized as a master of classical vocal pedagogy and has been instrumental in preserving and transmitting the great Italian vocal traditions to contemporary students.
