Mary Lou Muratori is a former lyric coloratura soprano with over 40 years of teaching experience, operating the Muratori Voice Studio in Binghamton, New York. She began her singing career in 1949 with Tri-Cities Opera of Binghamton, performing not only as a coloratura soprano, but also playing accompaniments on the piano for rehearsals. Mary Lou performed the role of Despina in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in Aspen, appearing alongside renowned mezzo-soprano Tatiana Troyanos. She was instructed by both Mae Grave Atkins and Signora Nerina Poggi, learning the Francesco Lamperti and Mathilde Marchesi vocal traditions. Mae Graves Atkins studied under internationally acclaimed Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House coloratura soprano Marcella Sembrich. Mary Lou passes on these famous bel canto methods to her students, teaching professional and aspiring singers of all ages in various disciplines including opera, operetta, musical theater, oratorio, art songs, and pop. Her teaching philosophy focuses on developing a beautiful instrument that is clear, in perfect pitch, and sings on the breath with a lovely quality. With a lifetime of performance experience and decades of teaching excellence, she brings authentic bel canto technique and professional insights to every student.
