Mary Bates George
About
Mary Bates George is an Instructor of Classical Voice at Belmont University's College of Music and Performing Arts, where she joined the faculty in 2003. She holds both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Vocal Performance, Pedagogy and Studio Teaching from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Ms. George has been a vocal coach since 1978 and brings exceptional experience to her teaching. She is a two-time finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Mid-South Regional auditions and has received numerous awards including Outstanding Women of America, Who's Who in Entertainment, and Who's Who in Education. Her performance career spans five decades in Nashville's recording industry, where she has recorded numerous contemporary Christian choral works and provided background vocals for Christian artists such as Sandy Patty, Steve Green, Lanelle Harris, and Michael W. Smith, as well as pop/country artists including Garth Brooks, Ronnie Milsap, Donna Summer, and Norah Jones. Ms. George has performed extensively with the Nashville Symphony and in various recital and opera productions, establishing herself as a respected voice teacher and professional singer in the Nashville music community.
