Martha Elliott is a soprano, teacher, and author who has been teaching at Princeton University since 1985 while maintaining a private studio in Skillman, New Jersey, five miles north of Princeton. Her students range from classical choral singers to jazz, musical theatre, folk, pop, and kirtan singers. Martha is also a mindfulness meditation instructor at Princeton Insight Meditation and Princeton Center for Yoga and Health, integrating meditation practices into her teaching approach. She studied relaxation for performers at the Aspen Music Festival and has been a student of meditation since 1980, training in Zen and Vipassana meditation traditions with attendance at retreats at Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock, and Rochester Zen Center. Martha completed a year-long Intensive Study and Practice Program at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. Her former students have pursued graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, Royal Academy and Royal College of Music in London, and have performed with New York City Opera National Touring Company and Czech Philharmonic.
