Marques Ruff
About
Dr. Marques J. Ruff is an Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Arkansas State University. As a bass-baritone, he conducts the Scarlet Voices (treble choir) and United Voices (the universitys gospel choir) while teaching courses including Introduction to K-12 Music Education, Methods and Materials for Choral Education, and Vocal Techniques for Instrumentalists. An accomplished performer, Dr. Ruff has been a featured soloist with the New World Symphony, National Chorus of Korea & Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. His critical acclaim from The Hartford Courant notes His voice has power, clarity, and brilliant shades of color. He is a passionate educator committed to the preservation of Negro Spirituals and Black Art music globally, with historical research centered on the Negro Spiritual and its legacy in todays society.
Education & Qualifications
Ph.D. in Music Education with emphasis in Choral Conducting from Florida State University; Master of Music in Choral Conducting from University of Missouri-Columbia; Master of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Missouri-Columbia; Bachelor of Arts in Music Education & Vocal Performance from Central Connecticut State University
