Marietta Simpson
About
Marietta Simpson is a Distinguished Rudy Professor of Music (Voice) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, one of the most prestigious music schools in the United States. An internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, Simpson has performed with every major orchestra in the United States under many of the world's greatest conductors including Kurt Masur, AndrΓ© Previn, and Simon Rattle. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1988 performing Brahms' Alto Rhapsody with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Her performance experience encompasses prestigious opera houses across Europe and America, including La Scala, Glyndebourne, and Houston Grand Opera. Simpson earned Grammy recognition in 2006 for her role on the award-winning recording of William Bolcom's Songs of Innocence and Experience. She received the Temple University Certificate of Honor for Distinguished Alumni and the Leontyne Price Award. Simpson was named an IU Distinguished Professor in 2020 and elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2019.
