Dr. Marcel Ramalho is the Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Voice in the Department of Music at Augusta University. He holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Ball State University with a primary emphasis in Vocal Performance and secondary emphasis in Choral Conducting. Dr. Ramalho also earned his Master of Music in Voice Performance from Indiana State University and his Bachelor of Music Education from Universidade Federal da Paraíba in Brazil. As an accomplished opera singer, he has performed roles including Thomas Putnam in The Crucible (Robert Ward), the title roles in Mozart works (Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro), Puccini productions, and Gilbert & Sullivan operetta roles. His scholarly research focuses on the music of Brazilian composer José Siqueira (1907-1985), and he has published articles in the Journal of Singing, Per Musi, and Revista da ABEM. Dr. Ramalho has presented lecture recitals at prestigious conferences including the 31st National Conference of the Brazilian Association for Graduate Studies in Music and the 2022 Southeastern Region NATS conference. Additionally, he serves as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Augusta Choral Society, which is celebrating its 75th season. His teaching experience includes adjunct voice instruction at Earlham College and as a graduate assistant conductor for multiple choirs at Ball State University.
