Lora Sherrodd is a Philadelphia-based vocalist, lyricist, and composer currently serving as the Jazz Voice instructor at Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where she teaches applied voice lessons and directs the Jazz Vocal Ensemble. She is an accomplished artist whose work centers on improvisation, vocalese, and composition, creating music that upholds the jazz tradition while incorporating lyricism relevant to contemporary audiences. Lora holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Temple University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in jazz and a minor in African American and Diaspora Studies from the University of Wyoming. She is trained in Level I and II of Somatic Voicework, a contemporary commercial voice program focused on contemporary styles and vocal function. Her creative work has earned significant recognition, including a 2020 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocal Solo for her debut album 287. She has written lyrics for Grammy Award-winning vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant and collaborated on various recording projects. Lora regularly performs in Philadelphia jazz venues including Chris' Jazz Cafe, South Jazz Kitchen, and the Kimmel Center.
