Dr. Lisa Neher is a mezzo-soprano, voice teacher, and composer based in Portland, Oregon, with over 10 years of teaching experience across multiple institutions including Lewis & Clark College, Coe College, Kirkwood Community College, and Grinnell College. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Kansas, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music and Theatre from Lewis & Clark College. Dr. Neher employs a supportive, personalized teaching approach focused on healthy and expressive singing, emphasizing transparent tools and conscious vocal control while creating an atmosphere of positive energy and play tempered with honesty. Her studio mission centers on empowering singers and expressive voices, with key focus areas including breath support and technique, vocal range expansion, performance confidence, musical storytelling and emotional expression, and vocal health. Dr. Neher maintains an active performance career with Resonance Choral Ensemble and Friends of Rain New Music Ensemble, with particular passion for contemporary and underrepresented composers. She accepts students in the southwest Portland, Tigard, Tualatin, and Lake Oswego region.
