Laurence Ewashko is a Full Professor of Choral Studies and Voice at the University of Ottawa, where he conducts the School of Music's choirs and teaches vocal repertoire in his private voice studio. With 33 seasons of choral activity in the National Capital Region, he brings exceptional depth of experience to his teaching. Laurence is a former conductor of the prestigious Vienna Boys' Choir and Cantata Singers of Ottawa, and currently conducts the Calixa-Lavallée Choir, the chamber choir of the School of Music at the University of Ottawa. He is a recipient of the prestigious Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting and has received numerous awards from the Canada Council of the Arts in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Canadian music. As a baritone vocalist himself, he has recorded recitals as a soloist for CBC Radio and brings his deep understanding of the voice to his teaching. At the University of Ottawa, he teaches choral techniques, conducts three choirs, and maintains a vibrant private voice studio where he works with singers of all voice types. His comprehensive approach integrates vocal technique, musical interpretation, and performance practice, drawing on his extensive experience as both conductor and performer to help students develop artistically and technically.
