About
Laura Grill Jaye is a composer, arranger, educator, and performer whose music manifests in a folk/rock/grass/jazz kind of way. She collaborates extensively with writing partner Shayok Misha Chowdhury as Grill and Chowder, creating original theatrical music developed at prestigious venues including Ars Nova and New York Theatre Workshop. Laura finds a unique joy in teaching and learning along with her students, emphasizing collaborative growth and improvisation as essential elements. She is a lecturer at MIT teaching Songwriting and directing the Vocal Jazz Ensemble (VJE) since 2017. She previously built and ran the Music Department at Meridian Academy in Boston since 2011, leading their multi-genre band and teaching music appreciation classes. She works as a clinician and coach for singing ensembles, a cappella groups, vocal jazz, and show choir.
