Kristi Whitten
About
Dr. Kristi Whitten is a Professor of Voice at Belmont University's College of Music and Performing Arts, where she joined the classical voice faculty in 2001. She previously served as Assistant Professor of Voice and Assistant to the Vocal Department Coordinator at Brevard College, where she taught applied classical voice, vocal diction, and opera. At Belmont, Dr. Whitten served as Coordinator of the Graduate Vocal Pedagogy area and the Vocal Arts Laboratory. Her guest clinician work includes masterclasses, choral retreats, and workshops for collegiate and high school music programs. She is experienced in adjudicating for music and vocal competitions, including The Blair School of Music MTNA Voice competition, Trevecca Nazarene Aria Competition, and the Schmidt competition. During her Fall 2021 faculty sabbatical, she visited various collegiate voice and opera departments, exploring methodologies and research related to learning styles and Whole Musician Wellness. Her performance background includes roles from Baroque, Classical, and Bel Canto operas. Her students have excelled as finalists and winners in NATS Mid-South Regionals and national competitions, with many selected for summer festivals and prestigious graduate programs.
