About
Dr. Katherine Skovira is a nationally recognized mezzo-soprano, artist-advocate, and contemporary music specialist from Philadelphia. She served as the inaugural Zeller Chair of Opera Studies, Director of Dramatic Vocal Arts, and Voice Studies Coordinator at Willamette University from 2019-2022. As a protégée of Barbara Hannigan and Lucy Shelton, Katherine has performed with the Lucerne Festival, Bard Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, and under the artistic direction of Maestro Lorin Maazel, Sir Simon Rattle, and Leon Botstein. Her expertise spans opera, contemporary music, and vocal pedagogy, bringing world-class performance experience to her teaching. Dr. Skovira is known for championing new music and developing innovative approaches to vocal arts education. She has performed over twenty operatic roles with esteemed companies and is dedicated to helping students develop both technical excellence and artistic expression.
