Katherine Posner

About

Katherine Kaufman Posner won the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions at age twenty, becoming the youngest winner ever at that time. She made her professional debut with the Santa Fe Opera, became a member of the Metropolitan Opera Studio where she worked with Kurt Adler and other prominent musicians, and subsequently performed with the San Francisco Opera and four seasons with the Goldovsky Opera Theatre. Katherine studied with the world-renowned Cornelius L. Reid, author of five highly respected books on singing including The Free Voice and Bel Canto: Principles and Practices, and also trained under the great Elisabeth Parham, a professor of voice at Oklahoma University who guided her to her national award in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She has more than forty years of teaching experience, including appointments to the faculties of Duke University and The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Katherine describes herself as a disciple of Cornelius Reid and a rediscoverer of the principles of the bel canto tradition. She is a lecturer in voice production and an expert in coaching musical styles, teaching English and foreign language diction, acting, and stage movement.
