Katherine Ciesinski is the Martin E. and Corazon D. Sanders Professor of Voice at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. She is an accomplished American mezzo-soprano with a distinguished international career spanning decades, having performed with major orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony, and the Metropolitan Opera. With extensive expertise in opera, art song, and vocal pedagogy, Katherine brings world-class performance experience and teaching acumen to her work with singers. She is committed to developing comprehensive vocal technique and artistic interpretation in her students. She previously served as Chair of the Voice and Opera Department at Eastman and holds a Master of Science in Medical Humanities from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Education & Qualifications

Extensive vocal training including studies at Temple University and the Curtis Institute of Music with Margaret Harshaw and Dino Yannopolous. Winner of the Gramma Fischer Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (1974), WGN Auditions of the Air (1975), the Concours International de Chant de Paris (1977), and the Geneva International Music Competition. Master of Science in Medical Humanities, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (2018).
