Julia Rich
About
Julia Rich is a jazz vocalist and vocal instructor at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) School of Music, where she teaches jazz voice. She is an alumna of MTSU, having studied under Margaret and Neil Wright. Julia had a remarkable 25-year career touring with the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, which she joined in 1985. During her tenure with Glenn Miller, she served as the longest-serving girl singer in the orchestra's history and also served as vocal group director for the Moonlight Serenaders (1989-2008) and as road manager for the orchestra during multiple periods. According to jazz critic Scott Yanow, Rich "has a warm singing voice, a style that falls between swinging jazz and cabaret, and the ability to sing a wide variety of material." She has released multiple albums and has taught voice in various capacities around the world. Her passion for jazz standards, big band music, and vocal classics makes her an exceptional educator for singers interested in traditional jazz and cabaret styles.
