Dr. Juanita Ulloa is an internationally acclaimed Operachi singer, pianist, songwriter, linguist, and author with 30 years of international solo concert experience in Spain, Mexico, Latin America, and the USA. Born in New Jersey to an American mother and Panamanian father, she was raised in Panama, Mexico City, and Madrid, Spain. Dr. Ulloa is a Professor of Voice at Laney Community College and San Joaquin Delta Community College in Northern California and maintains a vibrant national private voice studio from her Stockton home base, offering both in-person and online instruction. She is the author of The Mariachi Voice, published by Oxford University Press, the first comprehensive book of its kind covering mariachi history, pedagogy, diction, and song. Dr. Ulloa has released seven prize-winning Mexican folksong CDs and five songbook publications. She is one of the few specialists worldwide in Hispanic classical, mariachi, and folk song styles and literature. She is certified in all three levels of Somatic Voicework for commercial singing and is also a court-certified Spanish linguist. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
