About
Jonathan Gmeinder is a Chicago-based pianist and vocal coach from Hartland, Wisconsin, serving as Lecturer and Vocal Coach at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music in the Voice and Opera department. He specializes in vocal coaching, opera accompaniment, and collaborative piano performance with particular expertise in supporting singers preparing for auditions and competitions. Gmeinder holds a Master of Music in Vocal Accompanying from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from Lawrence University in Wisconsin. His professional experience includes fellowships at prestigious institutions including the Juilliard School's opera department and Houston Grand Opera, where he coached productions of classic operas including La bohรจme, Don Giovanni, and contributed to the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon's The House Without a Christmas Tree. He has also worked at the Aspen opera center, where he coached Rufus Wainwright's chamber opera Hadrian in 2017.
