Johanna Sillanpaa is a Swedish-born jazz vocalist and experienced vocal instructor with 20 years of teaching experience, currently on faculty in the vocal department at Mount Royal Conservatory in Calgary. She is certified in the Voiceworks® method, an internationally recognized approach to contemporary vocal technique that emphasizes healthy, sustainable singing across all popular music styles. Johanna teaches contemporary singing styles including Jazz, Pop, and R&B from both her home studio in Calgary and through online instruction via Zoom, making her expertise accessible to students across Canada. As an accomplished performer, Johanna has established herself as a prominent figure in Calgary's jazz scene, performing regularly at venues throughout Alberta and touring nationally. Her performances showcase her versatility across jazz standards, original compositions, and contemporary repertoire, and she has released multiple recordings that demonstrate her artistry and vocal prowess. Johanna's teaching philosophy combines evidence-based vocal technique from the Voiceworks® method with practical performance skills drawn from her extensive professional experience, helping students develop healthy vocal habits while finding their authentic artistic voice in jazz and contemporary styles.
