About
Jodi Burns is an accomplished soprano and voice instructor at UNCSA's Community Music School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. An exciting new voice in opera recognized for her plush voice and rich expressivity, she has earned critical praise from The New York Times for her performance in The Rake's Progress at Princeton Festival. A compelling artist with a broad operatic and concert repertoire, Burns has demonstrated exceptional musical talent and competitive recognition at the highest levels. She earned recognition at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, winning at the district level, claiming first place in the Southeast Regional Competition, and advancing to the semi-finals at the Metropolitan Opera House. Her operatic experience includes performances with prestigious opera companies and orchestras including appearances with Piedmont Opera in roles such as Barbarina in Marriage of Figaro and the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel. She has performed frequently at the Stevens Center and with regional orchestras including the North Carolina Symphony, Winston-Salem Youth Symphony, and UNCSA Symphony Orchestra under the direction of renowned conductors. Burns holds a Master of Music from UNCSA and a B.M.E. from Ohio State University. Beyond her opera career, she is also the singer-songwriter in the band Judy Barnes, which performs throughout North Carolina and has been featured at major music festivals.
